The Great Midnight Banana Race
Froggy the frog wiggled her toes and blinked her big, round eyes. The moon was bright and the stars twinkled above the zoo. Froggy loved nighttime, because nighttime meant adventures! Tonight, Froggy had a plan.
Froggy hopped out of her little pond and whispered, “It's banana racing night!”
She tiptoed to the monkey house where Max the monkey was waiting. Max was holding a shiny yellow banana in his tail. “Are you ready, Froggy?” Max giggled.
“Oh yes, I am ready!” Froggy laughed.
Suddenly, Ellie the elephant tiptoed over. She tried to be quiet, but her big feet went stomp, stomp, stomp. “Am I too late?” asked Ellie.
“No, Ellie! You are just in time!” said Froggy.
Penny the parrot flapped down from her perch. She was very colorful and very loud. “Banana race! Banana race!” she squawked.
Froggy smiled. “Let's start the race!”
Banana Trouble
Froggy, Max, Ellie, and Penny lined up at the start. The finish line was a big pile of leaves next to the zebra's fence.
Max handed everyone a banana. “Hold your banana tight! No squishing!” he joked.
“On your marks!” said Froggy.
“Get set!” said Max.
“GO!” yelled Penny.
Froggy hopped as fast as she could, holding her banana high. Max swung from tree to tree, giggling. Ellie tried to run, but she was so big and wobbly that her banana went plop on the ground.
“Oh no!” Ellie laughed, picking up her banana with her trunk. “My banana is squishy now!”
Penny flew up high, but her banana fell and landed on Max's head. “Oops!” Penny squawked. Max was covered in banana goo.
“Banana hat!” Max shouted and everyone burst out laughing.
Froggy bounced, bounce, bounce. Suddenly, she slipped on a banana peel. “Whoa!” Froggy spun around and landed right in the soft pile of leaves, banana still in her hand.
Giggly Winners
Max swung to the finish and landed next to Froggy with a splat. “We made it!” he cheered.
Ellie trotted over, her banana all mushy. Penny flew down, her wings sticky with banana.
They looked at each other and started giggling. Froggy looked at her silly friends. Max had banana in his fur, Ellie had banana on her trunk, and Penny had banana on her feathers. Froggy had banana on her nose!
“We're all winners!” Froggy laughed.
“Yes, we are!” said Max.
“We are the silliest banana racers ever!” said Ellie.
Penny squawked, “Banana fun! Banana fun!”
The four friends lay in the leaves, giggling and rolling and sharing their bananas. The moon watched them from above. Their laughter was soft and sweet, just like the night.
And when the sun peeked up, Froggy wiggled her toes and smiled. She could not wait for their next silly, secret adventure at the zoo.
