The Spooky Poster Plan
It was a chilly afternoon, and the air outside was full of whispers and giggles. Leaves danced in the wind, twirling in circles, orange and gold. The three friends—Milo, Lila, and Sam—were gathered in Milo's living room, surrounded by paper, paints, and brushes. They were planning something special for Halloween.
Every year, there was a poster contest at the community center. The winner's poster would welcome everyone to the Halloween party. This year, Milo wanted to make the best poster ever. His friends were excited to help.
Milo was full of energy, always bouncing and wriggling. Lila, with her sparkly glasses and funny monster hat, loved to make up stories and sing silly songs. Sam's wheelchair had bright green wheels, and he liked to draw spooky things that were also a little bit silly, like pumpkins with mustaches and dancing ghosts.
“Are we ready to start?” Milo asked, grinning.
“We have to make it spooky, but not too scary,” said Lila. “I don't like too many spooky shadows.”
Sam nodded. “We need happy monsters and friendly ghosts. And lots of colors!”
Milo clapped his hands. “Let's do it! But first, let's figure out what goes on the poster.”
They all sat in a circle. Milo started sketching a big haunted house, but instead of dark windows, he drew big, smiling jack-o'-lantern faces. Lila added a witch, but her witch wore rainbow socks and held a lollipop. Sam drew a pumpkin with roller skates zooming across the bottom.
“Should we add a moon?” Lila wondered.
“Yes,” said Sam. “But make it a sleepy moon, not a scary one.”
Milo painted a giant moon with a snoring face, and soon everyone was giggling. The room felt full of warm energy and excitement. The poster was already looking wonderful.
Just then, the wind rattled the window. “Did you hear that?” Milo whispered.
“It's just the wind,” Lila said, hugging her knees.
Sam smiled. “Maybe it's a friendly ghost coming to help us!”
They all looked at each other and laughed. Suddenly, Milo had an idea. “Let's make up a Halloween game to go with our poster! Something fun and a little mysterious.”
Lila's eyes sparkled. “A treasure hunt!”
Sam spun his wheelchair in a circle. “Yes! We can hide clues around the house.”
Milo grinned. “And the last clue can lead to our finished poster!”
The friends agreed. They decided to take turns hiding and finding clues while they worked on painting the poster. Lila made up the first clue. She drew a simple map on a piece of paper, with a big X in the kitchen.
“Who wants to go first?” Lila asked.
Milo jumped up. “Me!”
He zipped to the kitchen, searching high and low. He found the clue taped to the fridge. It read, “Find the place where ghosts like to rest, somewhere soft and warm—the very best!” Milo thought hard, then dashed to the couch with fluffy pillows.
There, he found a small plastic pumpkin with a tiny note inside: “Your next clue is hidden where witches make their brew.”
“The kitchen again!” Milo shouted, racing back. On the counter, next to the kettle, he found another note. This one had a riddle about “where the monsters hide their shoes.”
Sam wheeled over to the closet. “Maybe here?” He opened the door and found a small bag of colorful socks.
“Sock monsters!” laughed Lila.
They took turns reading and following clues, giggling as they went. Each clue led them back to the living room, where their poster was waiting. They painted and drew between clues, adding silly things each time: spiderwebs with smiley-faced spiders, bats wearing bow ties, and a ghost playing hopscotch.
The Gentle Ghostly Visitor
As the friends worked and played, the sun began to set. The room took on a soft, golden glow, and the shadows grew longer. Suddenly, the air felt a little cooler, and Milo shivered.
“Do you think there are real ghosts here?” Milo asked, peeking behind the curtains.
Lila shook her head. “Not scary ones. Maybe friendly ones.”
Sam nodded. “If I were a ghost, I'd help kids make Halloween posters.”
Just then, a tiny breeze made the curtains flutter. The friends looked at each other, wide-eyed. On the table, a paintbrush wobbled and fell to the floor.
Milo picked it up. “Maybe the ghost wants to help us paint.”
Lila grinned. “Let's leave a space for the ghost to add something!”
They left a blank spot on the poster—a little empty square near the bottom.
They worked together, painting the rest. Sam carefully painted a yellow sun peeking out from behind a cloud, because he liked the idea of the sun watching over everyone, even on Halloween.
Milo added more stars with silver paint. Lila painted a tiny black cat chasing a rolling candy.
Then, Sam had an idea. “Let's each paint something small for someone else.”
Lila painted a little wheelchair for Sam's pumpkin, so it could race even faster. Milo painted sparkly glasses on Lila's witch, and Sam drew a wild, curly mustache on Milo's favorite pumpkin.
They laughed and cheered for each other's ideas. The poster became a patchwork of colors, shapes, and smiles.
Just as they finished, a soft meow came from the hallway. It was Mrs. Whiskers, Milo's cat, with a small string tangled around her.
“Maybe Mrs. Whiskers is our ghost!” Lila said, giggling.
Milo petted his cat. “She can help us too.”
They gave Mrs. Whiskers a seat next to the poster. She looked proud and important.
Then, they remembered the empty space they had left for the friendly ghost. Lila found a tiny, pale blue paint pot. She dipped her finger in and carefully pressed it onto the poster, leaving a small, ghost-shaped fingerprint.
“That's for our ghost friend,” she said.
Sam smiled. “Now everyone helped.”
The Mysterious Halloween Game
Night arrived, and the friends' game wasn't over. The house felt extra cozy, with pumpkin lanterns glowing and the smell of cookies in the air.
Milo found the last clue tucked under his chair. It read: “Where colors meet and laughter grows, the final treasure sits and glows.”
Everyone looked at the poster, now shining with all their hard work.
Lila clapped her hands. “We did it! The poster is the treasure!”
Sam grinned. “And every clue was a step together.”
They sat back and looked at their creation. The haunted house with smiling windows, the rainbow-socked witch, the roller-skating pumpkin, the sleepy moon, and all the funny extras made the poster bright and joyful.
Milo hugged his friends. “We make a good team.”
Sam nodded. “Even the ghost helped.”
Lila looked around. “And Mrs. Whiskers!”
They cheered and shared cookies, feeling proud and happy.
“Next year, let's do it again,” said Milo.
“Maybe with more ghosts!” Lila laughed.
“Only the friendly kind,” Sam said, and everyone agreed.
Outside, the wind tapped gently on the window, as if to say goodnight. Inside, three friends, a cat, and one tiny painted ghost smiled at their masterpiece and each other.
And so, in the gentle glow of Halloween night, their spooky, silly adventure ended, with hearts full of warmth, laughter, and friendship.
