A 4-year-old boy with a round face, rosy cheeks and tousled light brown hair, smiling with bright eyes, holds a large star-shaped cookie near a tablet and reaches toward the screen; a smiling mother with tied brown hair in a red sweater stands behind him adjusting a garland on the sofa to the right; a crouched father in a green sweater places a cushion on the left with a gentle, protective look; an elderly grandfather with a wrinkled face and red scarf appears on the tablet laughing and waving; three plush toys—a white rabbit, a brown bear and a small beige reindeer—sit on the sofa facing the tablet; warm living room interior with a small unlit fireplace, fluffy rug, a compact Christmas tree decorated with yellow garlands and red baubles, a frosted window with falling snow outside; main scene: a cozy, intimate Christmas video call where the boy shows his cookie to his grandfather, warm colors, thick visible oil-pastel textures, soft contrasts, and a snug festive atmosphere. report a problem with this image

Part 1

Snow tapped the window like tiny, soft fingers. Ben, a little boy of four, stood on a chair and looked outside. The sky was pale and shiny, and the town lights blinked like sleepy stars.

“Today we make a Christmas video call!” Mom said, tying a red ribbon on a green box.

Ben clapped. “A video call is a picture phone, right?”

“Yes,” Mom said. “A picture phone with voices.”

Ben's eyes grew wide with curious sparkle. “Can Grandpa see my cookie?”

“He sure can,” Mom laughed. “If we get it ready.”

Ben had a mission. A very merry mission.

He picked up the tablet carefully, like it was a warm snowflake. “Hello, tablet,” he whispered. “Are you ready for Christmas?”

The tablet stayed quiet, of course, but Ben nodded as if it answered.

Part 2

First, Ben made the room look cozy. He put a small pillow on the couch. He smoothed the blanket. He lined up three stuffed friends—Bunny, Bear, and Tiny Reindeer.

“Sit nice,” Ben told them. “Grandpa is coming on the screen.”

Dad brought the little Christmas tree closer. The lights twinkled. A golden star on top shimmered like it was humming.

Ben tilted his head. “Why do lights twinkle?”

“They're happy,” Dad said. “They blink to say hello.”

Ben giggled and blinked back, just to be polite.

Next, Ben checked the camera. He held up a candy cane. He moved it left. He moved it right. “Can you see it, camera? Can you see it now?”

Mom helped him wipe a smudge. “There. Now it's clear as ice.”

Ben's belly felt bubbly. “What if Grandpa can't hear me?”

Mom cuddled him close. “We will fix it fast. We are a team.”

They practiced. Ben waved and said, “Hi, Grandpa! Merry Christmas!” Then he waved again, because waving felt good.

A little surprise waited on the table: a plate of star cookies with shiny sugar. Ben sniffed. “Smells like sweet snow.”

Part 3

At last, Mom tapped the screen. Ring-ring. Ring-ring.

Ben held his breath, then let it out slowly. “Come on, picture phone.”

Pop! Grandpa's face appeared, bright and smiling, with a red scarf around his neck.

“There's my Christmas boy!” Grandpa said.

Ben's worries melted like warm cocoa. “Hi, Grandpa! Look! Cookie!” He lifted a star cookie close to the camera.

Grandpa laughed. “A flying cookie! I can almost taste it.”

Ben showed Bunny, Bear, and Tiny Reindeer. He showed the tree lights. He even blinked at the twinkles again.

Grandpa asked, “What do you wonder about today?”

Ben thought hard. “I wonder… how love can travel through a screen.”

Grandpa's eyes looked soft and shiny. “It travels because you send it.”

Ben pressed his hand to the screen. “Then I'm sending lots.”

When the call ended, Ben felt calm and warm, like a mitten on a cold day. Outside, the snow kept tapping gently, and inside, Christmas glowed—quiet, cozy, and full of wonder.
