Chapter 1: The Big Rainbow Drawing

Lila was a little girl with bright eyes and curly hair. She was five years old and loved to draw. Every morning, Lila woke up in her cozy room. She smiled at her favorite teddy bear and whispered, “Today will be a happy day.”

Lila lived in a friendly neighborhood. Everywhere she looked, there were people from many places. Some wore bright clothes, some spoke in gentle voices, and everyone smiled at each other. Lila's best friend was Maya. Maya lived next door and always brought her laughter.

One sunny morning, Lila skipped outside with her box of crayons. Maya was already waiting with her chalks. The pavement was perfect for drawing. “Let's make the biggest rainbow ever!” Maya cheered.

“Yes!” Lila clapped her hands. “A big, beautiful rainbow for everyone to see!” They drew wide lines of red, orange, yellow, and blue. The colors were bright and happy. Children from nearby houses joined them. They all laughed and helped fill the rainbow with color.

But soon, Lila and Maya both wanted to draw the green line. Lila picked up the green chalk. Maya reached for it, too.

“I want to draw the green!” Maya said.

“But I want to draw the green!” Lila said.

They both frowned. Their hands held the green chalk tightly. The laughter stopped. The other children watched quietly. Lila looked at Maya and felt sad. She didn't want to fight with her friend.

Chapter 2: The Quiet Corner

Lila let go of the chalk and walked to the quiet corner of the yard. She sat on the soft grass and hugged her knees. Maya stayed by the rainbow, looking at the green chalk. The air felt heavy and still.

Mr. Lee, the gentle neighbor, came by. He wore a blue hat and always had candy in his pockets. He saw Lila sitting alone and sat beside her.

“Are you alright, Lila?” he asked softly.

Lila shook her head. “Maya is my best friend. We always draw together. But today, we wanted the same chalk, and now we're not friends.”

Mr. Lee nodded. “Sometimes, friends have small problems. But friends also listen, share, and forgive. Do you remember the time you shared your cookies with Maya?”

Lila nodded. “She was happy.”

“Friends help each other feel happy,” Mr. Lee said. “Maybe you can talk to Maya. Maybe you can listen to each other. Sometimes, that makes everything better.”

Lila thought about it. She missed Maya's smile. She wanted to feel happy again.

Chapter 3: Talking Together

Lila stood up and walked back to the rainbow. Maya was still there, holding the green chalk. Lila took a deep breath.

“Maya,” Lila said, “can we talk?”

Maya nodded and looked at Lila with big, soft eyes.

“I was sad because I wanted to draw the green line,” Lila said. “But I didn't want to make you sad. I love drawing with you. You are my best friend.”

Maya blinked. “I wanted to draw the green, too. I didn't want to make you sad. You are my best friend, too.”

Lila smiled a tiny smile. “Maybe we can both draw the green line, together!”

Maya's eyes lit up. “Yes! We can draw it together!”

They each held one end of the green chalk. Slowly, they drew the bright green stripe together, side by side. The rainbow sparkled on the pavement.

The other children clapped and cheered. The rainbow was the biggest and happiest it had ever been.

Chapter 4: Friends Make Rainbows

After the rainbow was finished, all the children sat in a circle. They shared cookies and juice. Everyone told stories and sang songs. Lila and Maya held hands.

“I'm glad we talked,” Lila said.

“Me too,” Maya agreed. “When we listen and share, we are better friends.”

Mr. Lee gave everyone a candy. “Friendship is like a rainbow,” he said. “It has many colors. Sometimes there are rainy moments, but if you talk and forgive, you find bright colors together.”

Lila looked at her friends. She saw smiles, heard laughter, and felt warm inside. She knew that friends were a precious treasure. Friends help when you're sad, share when you're happy, and forgive when you make mistakes.

That night, Lila told her teddy bear all about the rainbow and the green chalk. “Today, I learned being a friend means listening, sharing, and saying sorry. I love my friends,” she whispered.

And as she fell asleep, Lila dreamed of rainbows, laughter, and kindness. She felt safe, happy, and loved, knowing that friendship makes every day a little brighter.
