Chapter 1: A Cloudy Morning in Rainbow Street
Sam woke up and looked outside his window. The sky was a little gray and cloudy. Usually, Sam loved bright, sunny days. Today, he felt a little sad. Sam was not sure why, but his chest felt heavy and his smile was hiding. He sat up in bed and listened to the soft sound of rain tapping on the window.
Soon, Sam's mom called, “Time to get ready, Sam! It's a new day!” Sam slowly got dressed, put on his blue cap, and rolled his wheelchair to the kitchen. He nibbled on his toast, but he did not feel very hungry.
Sam lived on Rainbow Street. On Rainbow Street, everyone liked to help each other. There were tall houses, small houses, and lots of friendly faces. Sam's best friends lived nearby. There was Mia, who wore bright red glasses and loved to draw. There was Rafael, who had shiny black hair and always told funny jokes. And there was Lily, who had the loudest, happiest laugh.
After breakfast, Sam's mom said, “Why don't you go out and meet your friends, Sam? Fresh air might help.” Sam nodded and went outside. He rolled down the smooth path, feeling the cool air on his face.
Chapter 2: The Missing Ball
Sam saw Mia, Rafael, and Lily waiting for him by the big maple tree. Mia waved her drawing pad. Rafael tossed a red rubber ball in the air. Lily jumped up and down, singing a silly song.
“Hello, Sam!” said Mia.
“Wanna play?” Rafael grinned.
Sam tried to smile. “I guess so.”
The friends rolled the ball to each other. They laughed, clapped, and cheered. Sam tried to join in, but his mind still felt cloudy, like the sky. The ball bounced past Sam and rolled under a bush.
“Oh no!” said Lily. “The ball is lost!”
“We can find it!” said Rafael.
Mia knelt close to Sam. “Are you okay, Sam? You seem a little quiet.”
Sam shrugged. “I just feel sad today. I don't know why.”
Mia put her hand on Sam's. “That's okay. Sometimes people feel sad. We are your friends. We can help.”
Lily came over and nodded. “Friends help friends! Even on sad days!”
Rafael peeked under the bush. “I found the ball! But I need help getting it out.”
Sam's friends worked together. Mia used a stick, Rafael reached in, and Lily laughed as she held Mia's hat. Sam watched and started to feel a little lighter inside. They cheered as the ball popped out from the bush.
“Yay, teamwork!” said Rafael.
Chapter 3: Helping Hands
The friends decided to play a new game. They called it “Helping Hands.” Each person thought of something nice they could do for someone else.
“I can draw a happy picture for Sam!” said Mia. She drew a big sun with a silly face and lots of colorful butterflies.
“I can tell a funny joke!” said Rafael. He said, “Why did the cookie go to the doctor? Because it felt crummy!” Everyone giggled—even Sam.
“I can sing a song!” said Lily. She sang a happy friendship song. The words were easy, and soon everyone joined in, even Sam.
Sam started to feel better. The gray cloud in his heart was moving away. He looked around at his friends. They were all smiling, holding hands and laughing together.
“Thank you, everyone,” Sam said. “I feel much happier now. You are the best friends ever.”
Mia smiled. “That's what friends do! We share happy times and sad times. We are always together!”
Rafael nodded. “We stick together, just like glue!”
Lily squeezed Sam's hand. “No one is ever alone on Rainbow Street!”
Sam grinned. “Let's play together every day.”
Chapter 4: The Picnic of Friendship
The sky began to clear. Bright sunlight peeked through the clouds. The friends decided to have a picnic under the big maple tree. They shared apple slices, sandwiches, and cookies. Each friend brought something to share.
“Thank you for the apples,” said Mia.
“Thank you for the sandwiches,” said Rafael.
“Thank you for the cookies,” said Lily.
Sam smiled as he shared his favorite cheese crackers. “Thank you for being my friends.”
The children talked, laughed, and told stories. They remembered that real friends help each other, share with each other, and care for each other.
Suddenly, another child, Max, came by. Max was new in the neighborhood. He looked a little shy and nervous.
“Hi Max!” said Mia. “Would you like to join our picnic?”
Max's eyes brightened. “Yes, please!” he said.
Rafael made space for Max and offered him a cookie. Lily sang her friendship song again. Max smiled and clapped.
Sam looked at his friends and felt warm and happy inside. He learned that friends can help on cloudy days and sunny days. Friends can laugh together and help others feel better.
From that day, Sam knew that friendship was a treasure. When friends work together, everyone feels safe, happy, and never alone.
And so, on Rainbow Street, under the big maple tree, the friends promised to always look out for each other and share their smiles—because friendship makes every day brighter and every heart lighter.
