Oliver Thompson was a curious eleven-year-old boy with tousled brown hair and a sprinkle of freckles across his nose. "This is called tabbouleh," Amir explained, pointing to a salad made of parsley, tomatoes, and bulgur wheat. "And this is kibbeh," he added, gesturing to a small dish that looked like a meatball.

"Wow, that sounds amazing!" Sarah exclaimed. "I've never tried anything like that before."

Amir's eyes sparkled with excitement as he started to explain how his grandmother used to make these dishes back home. Oliver listened intently, fascinated by the stories Amir shared about his life in Syria—the bustling markets, the spicy scents of street food, and the traditions his family held dear.

"Do you like it here so far?" Oliver asked, trying to gauge how Amir was feeling.

"It's… different," Amir said slowly, looking down at his plate. "I miss my friends and the way things used to be."

"But they're right… I don't fit in," Amir replied, his voice trembling.

"No! You fit in with us," Sarah chimed in, her tone fierce. "We all bring something different to the table. That's what makes our friendship special!"

The older boys rolled their eyes and walked away, but the damage had been done. Oliver felt a heavy silence settle over the table. He could see Amir struggling with feelings of isolation and rejection.

Chapter 6: The Heart-to-Heart

Later that day, Oliver invited Amir to his house to play video games. As they sat on the couch, Oliver could sense Amir's unease. "Are you okay?" he asked gently.

"I don't know," Amir admitted, staring at the screen. "Sometimes I feel like I don't belong here. Maybe it would be easier if I just went back home."
