The Day of the Silly Shoes
Once upon a time, there was a little girl named Mia. Mia was three years old. She had big, curious eyes and a smile as bright as the sun. One morning, Mia opened her closet to find her favorite shoes. But—oh!—her shoes were bouncing up and down, making a funny boing-boing sound.
“Shoes, what are you doing?” Mia giggled.
“We want to bounce today!” said the left shoe.
“We want to dance today!” said the right shoe.
Mia laughed and put on her silly, bouncing shoes. As soon as she did, Mia bounced right up, up, up! She bounced around her room, boing-boing, boing-boing! Her teddy bear clapped. “Hooray, Mia! Hooray, shoes!”
Mia clapped too. “Let's go outside and bounce some more!” she said.
The Garden of Bouncing Bananas
Outside, the world was even sillier. The grass was tickly and green. The flowers were singing, “La la la!” And in the middle of the garden, there was a banana. But this banana wasn't just lying still. Oh, no. This banana was wearing a tiny hat and hopping in circles!
“Hello, banana!” Mia said.
The banana tipped its hat. “Hello, Mia! Would you like to bounce with me?”
“Yes, please!” Mia said.
So Mia, her silly shoes, and the hopping banana bounced together. Boing-boing! Hop-hop! The banana made a silly face. Mia giggled and wiggled. They bounced so much, a butterfly floated down. The butterfly had funny, curly mustaches.
“Flutter, flutter!” said the butterfly. “May I bounce, too?”
“Yes, butterfly!” Mia cheered. Now there were three: a bouncing girl, a hopping banana, and a butterfly with mustaches. They made a silly, bouncing line. Boing-boing! Hop-hop! Flutter-flutter!
Suddenly, the banana stopped. “Oh dear!” said the banana. “I have lost my hat!”
“Oh no!” said Mia.
“Oh no!” said the butterfly.
They looked under flowers. They looked behind rocks. They looked in Mia's pocket. No hat!
The Silly Hat Parade
Then, Mia had a funny idea. She took off one of her silly shoes and put it on the banana's head.
“Look, banana!” Mia laughed. “Now you have a shoe-hat!”
The banana looked at himself. “Oh, I look very silly!” he giggled. “I am a banana with a bouncing shoe-hat!”
The butterfly wanted a hat too. Mia gave her other shoe to the butterfly. Now the butterfly had a shoe-hat as well!
Everyone laughed. Mia, the banana, and the butterfly danced around the garden. Boing-boing! Flutter-hop! Shoe-hat, shoe-hat!
Mia clapped her hands. “This is the silliest day ever!” she said.
Just then, Mia's teddy bear peeked out the window. “Can I have a shoe-hat, too?” he called.
Mia giggled. “Teddy, you can have my hat!”
So Mia found her sunhat and gave it to Teddy. Teddy put it on his head and did a tiny bear dance.
Now everyone had a hat. The banana had a shoe-hat. The butterfly had a shoe-hat. Teddy had a sunhat. And Mia had a happy, silly heart.
They all bounced and laughed until the sun went down. When it was time to go inside, Mia waved goodbye to her new friends.
“See you tomorrow, silly shoes!” Mia giggled.
And from that day on, Mia knew that sometimes, bouncing shoes, hopping bananas, and fluttering butterflies make the very best friends. Especially when everyone has a hat.
