Morning came like a soft yawn over a small, bright room. In that room worked Mr. Theo, an inventor. He wore cozy slippers and a friendly smile. He loved to make helpful things. He listened, he looked, he wondered. He whispered, “Ideas are like bubbles,” and pop, pop, pop, they came.
On his table sat a little robot with round eyes. Its name was Bop. Bop's light blinked like a tiny star. “Good morning, Bop,” said Mr. Theo.
“Beep! Good morning!” said Bop.
Inventors think of ways to help. They draw pictures. They make a plan. They test the plan. They fix it if it needs fixing. They keep everyone safe. Mr. Theo had a soft list on the wall: Kind hands. Tidy table. Try again. He patted his notebook. He liked to write ideas so they wouldn't wander away.
“Today we will learn to tidy toys,” said Mr. Theo.
“Beep, beep! Tidy, tidy!” said Bop.
Mr. Theo showed a basket. He showed a red block. He spoke in gentle steps. “First, say please,” said Mr. Theo.
“Pleeeeease,” said Bop.
Tap-tap went the pencil as Mr. Theo drew a simple plan: first this, then that. Click went the blue button. Whirr went Bop. “Well done. Now, pick up the red block,” said Mr. Theo.
“Block!” said Bop.
Bop rolled a little crooked. Oops! The block slipped. Thunk. Mr. Theo chuckled softly. “It's okay. Think, plan, try again.” He moved the block closer. “Little steps, gentle taps.”
Bop tried once more. Clink! Into the basket went the block. “Beep!” said Bop, happy.
“Great job,” said Mr. Theo. “Red, then blue, then green.” They made a tidy rainbow. Bop did a tiny wiggle dance. Mr. Theo laughed a warm laugh. “Responsible inventors check their work,” he said. He tapped his list. “Are we safe? Are we kind? Is it helpful?” Bop blinked yes-yes.
They tested with soft toys. A teddy bear. A small ball. Everything went in the basket with a soft plop. When a block bumped the basket rim, Mr. Theo smiled. “Think, plan, try again.” He showed Bop slow hands. He hummed a little tune. Hum, hum, hum.
Soon the floor looked calm and clear. The room felt like a gentle sigh. Mr. Theo wiped the table. He wrote, “Bop learned to tidy.” He watered a tiny plant. “Inventors take care of their things,” he said. “We clean up. We turn off. We say thank you.”
“Thank you,” said Bop.
“Thank you,” said Mr. Theo.
The window glowed with evening. Click went the lamp to a warm, low moon. Mr. Theo pressed Bop's sleepy button. Whirr-shhh. Bop's light dimmed like a lullaby. Mr. Theo whispered, “Think, plan, try again,” and tucked his ideas into his notebook, safe and quiet for tomorrow.
