Chapter 1: The Colorful Studio
Mr. Leo wakes up early in the morning. The sun is shining. The birds are singing. Mr. Leo is smiling. Today is a big day! Today, Mr. Leo will prepare his art for a big, big art show.
Mr. Leo is an artist. He loves to make pictures. He loves to paint with bright colors. He loves to draw with pencils, crayons, and chalk. His studio is a very happy place. There are splashes of red, blue, yellow, and green on the walls. There are brushes standing tall in a jar. There is a big, messy table with paper, paints, and glitter.
“Good morning, colors!” says Mr. Leo. He waves to the brushes. He smiles at his paints. He puts on his blue apron. “Today, we will make art together. Today, we will get ready for the big show!”
Mr. Leo starts painting. He dips his brush in yellow paint. Swish, swish! He paints a big, bright sun. He dips his brush in blue. Swish, swish! He paints the sky. He laughs. “Oh, how I love to make art!”
Suddenly, there is a little knock at the door. Knock, knock! Mr. Leo opens the door. It is Mia from next door. Mia is five years old. She has curly hair and big, curious eyes.
“Hello, Mr. Leo!” says Mia. “What are you doing?”
“I am making art, Mia,” says Mr. Leo. “Would you like to see?”
Mia nods. She steps into the studio. She looks around. Her eyes are wide. “Wow! There are so many colors! There are so many pictures!”
Mr. Leo grins. “Yes, Mia! This is my art studio. This is where I make art every day. I am getting ready for a big art show. Would you like to help me today?”
Mia jumps up and down. “Yes, please! I want to help! I love art!”
Mr. Leo claps his hands. “Then let's get started, together!”
Chapter 2: Making Art Together
Mr. Leo gives Mia a little apron. Mia puts it on. Mr. Leo gives Mia a small brush. Mia holds it tight.
“First, we need to think,” says Mr. Leo. “What do we want to make? Artists use their imagination.”
Mia thinks. She looks at the colors. “I want to paint a rainbow!” she says.
Mr. Leo smiles. “A rainbow is a wonderful idea. Rainbows are full of colors. Artists love colors. Let's paint a rainbow together!”
Mr. Leo and Mia dip their brushes in red paint. Swish, swish! They paint a long, red line. Then orange, yellow, green, blue, and purple. Swish, swish, swish! The rainbow grows on the paper.
“Wow!” says Mia. “It's so pretty!”
Mr. Leo nods. “It is very pretty, Mia. Art makes the world pretty. Art makes people happy. When I make art, I feel happy inside.”
Mia giggles. “I feel happy too! I love painting!”
Mr. Leo says, “Artists use many tools. We use brushes. We use sponges. We use our fingers, too!”
Mia laughs. “Can I paint with my fingers?”
Mr. Leo nods. “Yes, you can! But first, we must be safe. We must wear smocks. We must wash our hands after.”
Mia dips her finger in green paint. Dot, dot, dot! She makes little green dots. “Look, Mr. Leo! I made grass!”
Mr. Leo claps. “Wonderful, Mia! You are a great artist!”
Mia smiles. “You are a great artist too, Mr. Leo!”
They paint and laugh. They talk about colors. They talk about shapes. They talk about feelings. Art is fun. Art is for everyone.
Chapter 3: The Big Challenge
After painting, Mr. Leo sits down. He looks at all his pictures. There are so many! He looks a little worried.
Mia asks, “What's wrong, Mr. Leo?”
Mr. Leo sighs. “Sometimes, being an artist is hard. Sometimes, I do not know what to make. Sometimes, my art does not look how I want it to look. Sometimes, I feel stuck.”
Mia nods. “Sometimes, I feel stuck too.”
Mr. Leo says, “But artists do not give up. We try again. We keep making art. We use our feelings. We use our hands. We use our hearts.”
Mia says, “Can I help you, Mr. Leo?”
Mr. Leo smiles. “Yes, Mia. You can help me. You are my friend. Friends help each other.”
Mia thinks. “Maybe we can make a big picture together! A picture with lots of colors and shapes!”
Mr. Leo's eyes shine. “That is a wonderful idea, Mia! Let's make a big, happy picture!”
They find a big piece of paper. They paint together. Mr. Leo paints a yellow sun. Mia paints red flowers. Mr. Leo paints blue clouds. Mia paints green trees. They add birds. They add butterflies. They add smiles.
The big picture grows. It is full of colors. It is full of joy. It is full of love.
Mr. Leo says, “Thank you, Mia. You helped me. You gave me a new idea. Artists help each other. Artists share.”
Mia hugs Mr. Leo. “I love making art with you.”
Mr. Leo hugs Mia back. “I love making art with you too.”
Chapter 4: The Art Show
The day of the art show arrives. Mr. Leo and Mia are very excited. They pack up the paintings. They pack up the brushes. They put on clean clothes.
“Art shows are special,” says Mr. Leo. “We show our art to everyone. We share our feelings. We share our ideas. We make people smile.”
Mia nods. “I want to make people smile.”
At the art show, there are many people. There are moms and dads. There are children. There are teachers. Everyone looks at the art. Everyone smiles.
Mr. Leo puts up his paintings. He puts up the rainbow. He puts up the big, happy picture he made with Mia.
People clap. People laugh. People say, “Wow! What beautiful art!”
Mia feels proud. Mr. Leo feels proud too.
A little boy asks, “How do you make art?”
Mr. Leo says, “We use our eyes. We use our hands. We use our hearts. We use our imagination. We make art every day. We never give up.”
Mia says, “Art is fun! Art is for everyone! You can be an artist too!”
Mr. Leo smiles. “That's right, Mia. Everyone can be an artist. All you need is your imagination. All you need is your heart.”
The art show is a big, big success. Mr. Leo and Mia are happy. They made art. They made friends. They made memories.
When the show is over, Mr. Leo says, “Thank you, Mia. You are a wonderful artist. You are a wonderful friend.”
Mia hugs Mr. Leo. “Thank you, Mr. Leo. I love being an artist with you.”
Mr. Leo and Mia walk home, hand in hand. The world is full of colors. The world is full of art. The world is full of joy.
And every day, in his bright, happy studio, Mr. Leo remembers: Art is for everyone. Art is for you. And you can always make something beautiful, every single day.
