Chapter 1: Benny and the Big Blue Pool
Benny the bunny woke up with a funny feeling in his tummy. Today was a special day at Willow Meadow School: swimming class day! Benny's soft white ears drooped a little as he remembered what Mrs. Maple, the gym teacher, had told the class yesterday. “Tomorrow, we're all going to the big blue pool to learn how to swim. Pack your swim trunks and towels, everyone!”
The other bunnies had cheered and bounced in their seats, chattering about splashing and floating. But Benny had stayed quiet. Water made Benny nervous. It was cold, it was wet, and it looked so deep! What if he sank? What if his ears got soggy? He had never been in a pool before, and his heart thumped just thinking about it.
At breakfast, Benny poked at his carrot muffin. His mom noticed right away. “What's on your mind, Benny?” she asked gently, pouring him a glass of carrot juice.
“Today is swimming class,” Benny mumbled, looking down at his paws. “I'm scared to go in the water.”
Benny's mom gave him a big, warm hug. “It's okay to feel scared about something new,” she said kindly. “Sometimes, being brave means trying—even when you're worried. And remember, you don't have to do it alone. Your teachers and friends will help you.”
Benny nodded, feeling a tiny bit better. After breakfast, he put on his favorite blue swim trunks, packed his towel, and hopped off to school.
When Benny arrived, his best friend Millie the mouse ran up to him, her tiny tail wiggling with excitement. “Benny! I can't wait to splash! Are you excited?”
Benny's ears drooped again. “Not really. I'm kind of scared.”
Millie looked surprised, then smiled. “It's okay, Benny! You can hold my paw if you want. We'll do it together!”
Benny managed a little smile. Maybe it wouldn't be so bad if he had a friend by his side.
Chapter 2: First Splash and Funny Flippers
At the pool, everything looked so big and shiny. The water sparkled in the sunlight, and the air smelled like soap and wet grass. Benny's nose twitched nervously.
Mrs. Maple handed out bright orange floaties. “These will help you stay afloat!” she said, slipping two floaties onto Benny's arms. Benny's ears perked up—he felt a little safer now.
“Let's start by dipping our toes,” Mrs. Maple suggested. All the bunnies and mice sat on the edge and wiggled their toes in the water. It was cold, but not too bad. Benny giggled when Millie splashed water on his foot with her tail.
“Ready to go in a little deeper?” Mrs. Maple asked. Some bunnies jumped in with a big splash. Benny watched, wide-eyed, as they floated and laughed.
Millie stood up. “Come on, Benny! We can do it together.” She offered her paw, and Benny held on tight. Slowly, they stepped down the ladder. The water felt cool and tickly around Benny's legs. When it rose to his tummy, he squeezed Millie's paw.
“You're doing it, Benny!” Millie cheered.
Benny tried to remember to breathe. He let go of the ladder for just a second—and suddenly, he was floating! The orange floaties kept him bobbing on top of the water. Benny gave a nervous laugh. He flapped his feet and made a little splash.
Mrs. Maple swam over. “Great job, Benny! You're swimming!” she said with a big smile.
Benny grinned. “Sort of,” he said, paddling slowly. His ears were still dry, and that made him happy.
Suddenly, Benny's floaty slipped a tiny bit. He flailed his paws and splashed Millie with water, making her sneeze. “Achoo!” she squeaked, sending a bubble flying. Benny burst out laughing, and soon all the bunnies were giggling at Millie's silly sneeze bubbles.
For the first time, Benny forgot to be scared. He just felt happy.
Chapter 3: Benny's Brave Big Jump
After some practice, Mrs. Maple gathered everyone at the shallow end. “Who wants to try the jumping board?” she asked. “It's just a little hop into the water!”
Some bunnies bounced up and down, eager to jump. Benny watched, his heart thumping again. The board looked much higher up close. Benny remembered how scared he'd felt this morning. But now, he also remembered how much fun he'd just had.
Millie noticed Benny's worried face. “You don't have to jump if you don't want to,” she said gently.
Benny thought for a moment, twitching his nose. He wanted to try, just to see if he could do it. “I think I want to try,” he said quietly.
He climbed the ladder, his paws shaking a little. The board felt a bit wobbly. Benny took a deep breath and looked at the water below. Everyone was watching, but not in a scary way—they all smiled and cheered.
“Go, Benny!” Millie called.
Benny closed his eyes, counted to three, and hopped off the board. Splash! The water whooshed up all around him. For a second, Benny felt a little scared, but his floaties kept him bobbing gently on the surface. He wiped the water from his eyes and laughed.
Mrs. Maple clapped. “You did it, Benny! That was a brave jump!”
Benny's ears stood up tall and proud. He felt like he could do anything now.
Chapter 4: Lessons Learned and Laughter Shared
Swimming class was soon over, and everyone dried off with fluffy towels. Benny's fur was a bit messy, and his ears were damp, but he didn't mind at all.
On the walk home, Benny told his mom all about his day. “I was scared at first, but then I tried, and it wasn't so bad,” he said, munching on a crunchy carrot. “I even jumped off the board!”
Benny's mom hugged him tightly. “I'm so proud of you, Benny! You faced your fear and learned something new. That's real courage.”
At bedtime, Benny snuggled under his blanket with a big smile. He remembered how worried he'd been—but he'd tried, with a little help from his friend and his teacher. He'd even laughed and had fun.
The next day at school, Benny told his class about his jump. Some of his friends wanted to try swimming too. Benny smiled and said, “It's okay to be scared. But it's also okay to try. And you might just find out you're braver than you think!”
Benny learned that fears can be big or small, but they can always be understood, talked about, and sometimes even laughed at. With kind friends, gentle teachers, and a little courage, anything is possible—even for a bunny who was scared of the big blue pool.
And from that day on, whenever Benny felt a funny feeling in his tummy, he remembered: sometimes, the bravest thing you can do is just to try.
