Chapter 1: Benny's Big Birthday Plan
Benny the Badger woke up to sunshine pouring through his window. Today was a very special day. It was Benny's birthday! He bounced out of bed with a big, happy wiggle.
“Today is my birthday!” he cheered, twirling around in his stripy pajamas. “I can't wait to celebrate with all my friends in Badgerwood!”
Benny rushed to the kitchen, where his mom had made him a stack of pancakes shaped like stars. “Happy birthday, Benny!” she smiled, giving him a warm, fuzzy hug.
After breakfast, Benny remembered his most important job for today. He had to label all the party presents so everyone would know whose was whose. There were so many colorful boxes and bags—red ones, blue ones, sparkly ones, and even a squishy one with a wiggly bow.
Benny's mom placed a big basket of tags and a bright green marker on the table. “Here you go, birthday badger. You're in charge of labeling. Just write the names nice and neat!”
Benny nodded bravely. He wanted to do it all by himself. “I can do it!” he said, his voice strong.
But as he looked at the pile, he felt a little nervous. What if he mixed up the gifts? What if he spelled someone's name wrong? Benny took a deep breath and remembered what his mom always said: “You are braver than you think.”
“I can do this,” Benny said to himself, holding the marker tight.
Chapter 2: The Labeling Adventure Begins
Benny started with the biggest present. The tag said, “To Daisy Deer.” He carefully wrote “DAISY” in big, wobbly letters. He smiled. That wasn't so hard!
Next was a box with a blue ribbon. This one was for Toby Turtle. Benny wrote “TOBY” and added a little turtle doodle. He giggled.
Then Benny found a soft, squishy package. The tag said, “For Millie Mouse.” Benny began to write “M-I-L-L…” but oh no! He sneezed! The marker scribbled a funny squiggle right across the tag.
“Oh whiskers!” Benny sighed. He tried to rub it away, but the squiggle stayed. Benny felt his tummy flutter. What now?
Just then, his little sister, Bella, peeked in. “What's wrong, Benny?” she asked, her nose twitching.
“I made a mistake on Millie's label,” Benny said quietly. “Now it's messy.”
Bella smiled. “That's okay, Benny! You can draw a flower over it. Millie loves flowers!”
Benny's eyes sparkled. “Great idea, Bella!” He drew a big, happy flower on the tag. Now the label looked even better!
Benny felt braver. He kept going, writing names, drawing doodles, and making each label special. Whenever he worried, he remembered: “You are braver than you think.”
Chapter 3: A Mix-Up and a Mystery
Soon, Benny was almost done. Only three presents left: one for Ollie Owl, one for Felix Fox, and one for Bella Badger—his little sister!
Benny picked up Ollie's present, a tall box with shiny silver paper. He wrote “OLLIE” with a tiny owl face. Next, he grabbed Felix's present, a red box with orange spots. He wrote “FELIX” with a fluffy fox tail.
Last was Bella's present. But wait! Benny looked at the last two boxes and his heart thumped. He'd mixed up the last two labels! Oh no! Ollie's name was on Felix's box, and Felix's name was on Ollie's box.
Benny's paws felt shaky. What if he ruined the surprise? Should he tell his mom? Should he hide?
He remembered the words again: “You are braver than you think.”
Benny took a deep breath and marched to the kitchen. “Mom, I made a mistake,” he said, holding out the mix-up. “I put the wrong labels on these two presents. What should I do?”
Benny's mom knelt down and hugged him. “It's okay, Benny! Mistakes happen. It's brave to ask for help.”
Together, they peeled off the wrong labels and made new ones. Benny wrote “OLLIE” and “FELIX” again, this time with an extra smiley face. He felt lighter, like a balloon ready to float.
“See?” said Mom. “You fixed it. That's what being brave is about—trying, asking, and never giving up.”
Benny grinned. “I'm a brave badger!”
Chapter 4: The Birthday Party Surprise
The sun was shining in Badgerwood as all Benny's friends arrived. Daisy Deer wore a colorful hat. Toby Turtle brought a shiny balloon. Millie Mouse squeaked with excitement. Ollie Owl and Felix Fox came together, giggling.
“Happy birthday, Benny!” they all cheered.
Benny handed out the presents, each with its special label. “This one is for you, Daisy. Here's yours, Toby. Millie, this one has a flower just for you!”
Everyone loved their gifts. Millie danced with her flower tag. Ollie admired the owl face on his label. Felix laughed at the fluffy fox tail Benny had drawn.
Then it was Benny's turn. His friends gave him a big, round box with a rainbow ribbon. Benny opened it and gasped. Inside was a homemade “Brave Badger” cape, covered in stars and smiley faces.
“It's for you, Benny!” said Daisy. “Because you're the bravest badger we know.”
Benny put on his cape and stood tall. He felt proud and happy. “Thank you, everyone. I love my cape! And I love having friends like you.”
The party was full of games, laughter, and cake. Benny led his friends in a silly birthday dance, spinning and hopping, his cape fluttering behind him.
As the sun set, Benny looked around at all his friends. He felt warm and bright inside.
“I did it,” he whispered. “I was brave. And today was the best birthday ever.”
And from that day on, Benny knew: no matter what, he was always braver than he thought.
