Chapter 1: The Wiggly Red Ticket
Benji was six years old and had never been to the circus before. One bright, sunny morning, his grandma handed him a shiny, red ticket. The ticket was big and wiggly, almost like a little red worm. Benji held it tight in his hand. He jumped up and down, making the ticket wiggle more.
“Grandma, what is this for?” Benji asked with big, round eyes.
“It's for the circus, Benji!” Grandma smiled, her eyes twinkling. “Today, you and I are going to see clowns, magicians, acrobats, and maybe even a dancing elephant!”
Benji's eyes grew wide as pancakes. “A circus? With clowns and elephants and magic?”
“Yes! And popcorn and candy floss too!” Grandma winked.
Benji squealed. “Let's go, let's go, let's go!” He hopped. He skipped. He made the ticket wiggle so much it almost flew away.
Grandma held his hand as they walked to the big striped tent. It was red and yellow, and it looked like a giant upside-down bowl. The tent flapped in the wind and smelled like popcorn and giggles.
Benji looked up and whispered, “Wow, the circus is so big!” His tummy did a little somersault. He felt excited, and a little bit nervous.
A clown with a blue nose and green hair opened the door. “Welcome, welcome! Come inside, come inside! The circus is waiting for you!” the clown cheered.
Benji giggled. “Grandma, the clown's nose is bigger than my apple!”
Grandma laughed. “Let's go meet more funny friends!”
Chapter 2: The Silly Magician
Inside the tent, everything was bright and sparkling. There were balloons floating everywhere. Benji saw a juggler tossing oranges, a girl walking on her hands, and a monkey wearing a tiny hat.
Suddenly, a boy in a purple cape and a tall, wobbly hat came rushing over. His name was Max, and he was the circus's junior magician. He looked about Benji's age.
“Hello! I'm Max the Magnificent!” said Max, puffing out his chest. “Would you like to see some magic?”
Benji nodded. “Yes, please! I love magic!”
Max grinned. “Watch closely! I will pull a rabbit out of my hat!” Max waved his wand. “Abracadabra, wiggly-waggly, bunny appear!”
He reached into his hat and pulled out… a sock!
Benji burst out laughing. “That's not a rabbit, that's a sock!”
Max looked surprised. “Oops! Let me try again!” He waved his wand. “Abra-zebra, magic sock, turn into a rabbit!”
He pulled out… a banana!
Benji laughed even louder. “That's not a rabbit! That's a banana!”
Max scratched his head. “Third time's the charm!” He waved his wand super fast. “Abra-cadabra, bunny, please come out!”
This time, Max pulled out a tiny white bunny with floppy ears. The bunny sneezed—Achoo!—and a puff of glitter filled the air.
Benji clapped and clapped. “You did it! You made a magic bunny!”
Max bowed. “Thank you, thank you! My bunny's name is Sprinkles. He loves to sneeze glitter!”
Sprinkles hopped onto Benji's lap. Benji giggled as glitter tickled his nose. Grandma took a picture. Everyone was smiling.
Chapter 3: The Clown Parade
A trumpet sounded. “Parade time!” someone shouted. All the clowns lined up with silly hats and big shoes. They marched around the ring, honking horns and throwing confetti. Benji could not stop laughing. One clown's hat kept falling over his eyes, and he bumped into another clown, who juggled pies. The pies went flying—smack!—right into another clown's face.
“Oops! Sorry!” said the pie clown, but he was laughing too.
Benji watched as Max the Magician joined the parade. He marched with his wand, and Sprinkles the bunny rode on his head. The bunny wore a tiny red bowtie and wiggled his nose.
“Benji, would you like to join our clown parade?” Max called.
Benji bounced up. “Yes, please!” A clown gave him a big red nose and a rainbow wig.
Benji marched with the clowns. He honked a horn—honk, honk! He waved at Grandma. Grandma waved back and cheered.
All the clowns did silly dances. Their big shoes made funny noises, “flip-flop, flip-flop.” Benji tried to do a silly dance too. His shoes were so big, he tripped and landed on a big, soft pie. SPLAT!
All the clowns laughed and gave Benji a big, warm hug. Benji laughed too. His face was covered in whipped cream. It tasted sweet and made his nose wiggle.
“You're the silliest clown of all!” said Max.
Benji felt proud and happy. He was a real clown now!
Chapter 4: The Big Surprise
After the parade, Grandma led Benji to their seats. The ringmaster, with a tall black hat, stepped into the center. “Ladies and gentlemen, boys and girls! Welcome to the Grand Circus Show!”
The lights sparkled. The music played. Benji watched acrobats swing high above his head. He saw a tiger jump through a hoop (the hoop was made of balloons!). He saw a tiny dog ride a tiny bike.
Then it was time for the magic show. Max the Magician walked to the center with Sprinkles the bunny.
“I need a helper!” Max said. “Would Benji like to help me with my biggest magic trick?”
Benji's eyes grew wide. “Me? Help with magic?”
“Yes, you!” Max smiled and waved him over.
Benji walked to the center. His shoes still had whipped cream on them. Everyone cheered.
Max whispered, “We are going to make candy fall from the sky! Are you ready?”
Benji nodded. “Ready!”
Max waved his wand. Benji waved too. Together, they said, “Abracadabra, candy come down!”
Suddenly, colorful candies started to fall from the ceiling. Red candies, green candies, yellow candies—candies everywhere!
The crowd cheered. Benji caught candies in his hat. Sprinkles the bunny caught candies in his ears. The clowns caught candies in their big shoes.
Benji laughed so hard his belly shook. He felt happy, silly, and magical all at once.
Max gave Benji a big hug. “You are the best magic helper ever!”
Benji grinned. “That was the best day ever!”
All the circus people cheered. Grandma clapped and waved. Benji shared his candies with everyone—clowns, acrobats, the ringmaster, and even the silly monkey.
Chapter 5: Goodbyes and Giggles
As the show ended, Benji felt sleepy. He hugged Max and Sprinkles. He hugged the clowns and waved to the acrobats.
“Thank you for the magic! Thank you for the fun!” Benji said.
Max smiled. “Come back soon. The circus always has more magic!”
Benji held Grandma's hand as they walked home. His pockets were full of candy. His nose was still a little bit red. His heart was full of giggles.
“Grandma, the circus is the best place ever!” Benji said.
Grandma squeezed his hand. “Yes, Benji. The circus is full of magic, and so are you.”
Benji yawned and smiled. He dreamed of clowns, bunnies, and raining candy all the way home.
And if you listen very carefully, you might still hear Benji's giggles floating in the air, like confetti at the circus, full of joy, color, and sweet, sweet magic.
